Why purple?

Purple is the universally recognized colour for non drinkable recycled water.

What is grey water?

Grey water is waste water generated from bathroom, laundry and kitchen. Waste from the toilet is called black water.

Is grey water OK to irrigate my garden?

Yes. Our system collects water from baths, sinks and showers only. This is suitable for lawn and flower beds but not for irrigating fruit and vegetable patches.

Can I install this system in my house?

You can install the ‘Diverter’ providing your grey water pipes are externally accessible.

How much water can we recycle?

An average family of four wastes 3,000 litres of grey water down the drain per week.

Are there any running costs?

A minimal electric cost for running the pump. This recycling system actually saves you money.

How quickly will I get a return on my investment?

3 or 4 years. With a saving on your metered water bill (using the water twice) and a refund on the sewage part of your bill, an average family of 4 can save approx £200 per year. As well as helping save our precious water resources. No wasting water!! Year on year saving!!

How does the system work?

The water is diverted atomically from your bath and shower to the grey water tank. The submersible pump will then pump this waste water directly to your garden.

Is water treatment necessary?

Grey water does not need treatment it is not harmful to your garden. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium which can be beneficial to plants.

Will detergents be harmful to my plants?

No. However, we do recommend using eco friendly, biodegradable household cleaning products, as well as natural or organic body soaps and shampoos. Important: DO NOT USE BLEACH.

Why filter?

In order to prevent clogging of the irrigation system filters are necessary. These filters have to be cleaned regularly.

Which irrigation method is recommended to use with this product?

Any means of distribution can be used, i.e. hose and sprinkler or surface/sub surface drip irrigation. We recommend our own tested quality brand, Biodrip.

Do any regulations apply?

It is perfectly permissible to use grey water for garden irrigation.

Can we collect rain water as well?

Yes you can. Rain water collection can be incorporated into this system.
